One Year Ago, November Looked Quiet — Then Everything Landed at Once

Last year, November belonged to video games. This year, it belongs to space sci-fi across every medium simultaneously — and the sheer density of releases arriving over the next thirty days represents something the genre has not seen since the autumn of 2014, when Interstellar, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, and Dragon Age: Inquisition competed for the same cultural oxygen. Here is everything arriving, ranked by significance, with the dates, platforms, and context you need to plan your month.

The Headliners: Tier One Releases

Blade Runner 2099 — Amazon Prime Video, 25 November

All eight episodes of Blade Runner 2099 drop simultaneously on Prime Video, making this the single largest space sci-fi television event of November. Michelle Yeoh stars as Olwen, a Replicant Blade Runner in the final days of her life; Hunter Schafer plays Cora, a human fugitive posing as a Replicant. Showrunner Silka Luisa has described the aesthetic as "sunshine noir" — a deliberate departure from the rain-soaked darkness of Ridley Scott's original. Scott executive produces.

Why it matters: This is Amazon's most expensive original sci-fi production to date and the first live-action Blade Runner content since 2017's 2049. The all-at-once release format gambles that binge viewing will generate more cultural conversation than a weekly drip. If it works, expect Amazon to greenlight a second season before Christmas.

Dune: Part One & Part Two — IMAX Re-Release, November (Dates TBC)

Warner Bros and Legendary are sending both Denis Villeneuve films back to IMAX screens ahead of Dune: Part Three's 18 December premiere. The combined franchise has grossed over £900 million globally. For viewers who missed the original IMAX presentations, this is the definitive way to experience Arrakis before the trilogy's conclusion.

In a rugged desert landscape, a person in dark, weathered clothing and a face scarf crouches on a rocky surface, surrounded by others standing in similar attire, highlighting a scene of survival and resilience.

Why it matters: Re-releases of this scale are rare outside the Marvel ecosystem. Warner is betting that theatrical IMAX screenings will reignite social media conversation and pre-sell December opening weekend tickets — a strategy that worked spectacularly for Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022.

Andy Weir's Exoplanet — Audible, 5 November

Anthony Mackie leads Andy Weir's Exoplanet, a full-cast audio drama produced with Skywalker Sound. At an estimated production budget exceeding £15 million, it is the most expensive audio original in Audible's history. Benjamin Percy adapted the script. The story follows a crew aboard humanity's first interstellar vessel investigating a potentially habitable exoplanet.

Why it matters: If Exoplanet performs, it validates a new production tier for audio sci-fi — studio budgets, A-list casts, and cinema-grade sound design applied to a medium that most studios still treat as an afterthought. Weir's track record (The Martian, Project Hail Mary) makes this Audible's safest big bet.

The Contenders: Tier Two Releases

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 — Netflix, Streaming Now

Already available since 20 October, Edgerunners 2 continues its run through November. Studio Trigger's standalone sequel features an entirely new Night City crew and has been accompanied by the Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 with tie-in content. The series debuted at number three on Netflix's global charts.

Becky Chambers — As You Wake, Break the Shell (Published October, Peak Conversation November)

Becky Chambers' new duology opener follows a botanist and a pilot bonded to an alien ship on a resource-poor planet. Published 13 October, expect peak readership and review conversation through November as book clubs and genre podcasts catch up. Chambers remains the most important voice in hopepunk space sci-fi.

The book cover of "As You Wake" by Becky Chambers features two contrasting planets connected by a glowing tether, set against a starry purple galaxy backdrop; the top planet is dark and barren while the bottom one is vibrant and lush.

Discover a world of enigmas and experience Chamber's skilful storytelling, this new novel deserves serious consideration . Image credit: Amazon

The Wildcards: Worth Watching

Marathon (Bungie) — Symbiosis Update, December Preview Content

In a dramatic science fiction scene, three heavily armoured soldiers engage in a tense battle against a massive, menacing alien creature, amidst a vivid, otherworldly landscape bathed in purple and pink hues, with "Marathon: Symbiosis" text prominently displayed on the left.

If the artwork is anything to go by, the Symbiosis update is going to amp up the horror and mystery in Marathon with new gameplay and environments that are sure to draw players to Tau Ceti IV. Image credit: Bungie

Bungie's Marathon reboot has been teasing its Symbiosis content update for December, but preview materials and a potential beta access window are expected in late November. The game shifts Bungie's sci-fi ambitions from Destiny to a PvP extraction shooter set on the lost colony world of Tau Ceti IV.

The Forever Dead by John Birmingham (Published October)

Cover of "The Forever Dead" by John Birmingham featuring a dynamic space scene with two large, futuristic spacecraft engaged in a dramatic battle surrounded by vivid purple and blue cosmic colours, against a backdrop of stars and nebulae.

Pick this up if you are looking for a new action adventure book that has more brains than brawn, Birmingham captures the essence perfectly. Image credit: Amazon

The conclusion of the Cruel Stars trilogy — military space opera at its most uncompromising. A small band of human survivors fights the Sturm in a war that spans star systems. Published 13 October; the definitive space opera conclusion of 2026.

SciNexic Verdict: Your November Priority Stack

For readers managing limited time across a packed month, here is the recommended priority order:

  1. Blade Runner 2099 (25 Nov) — unmissable if the reviews land above 70% on Rotten Tomatoes

  2. Dune IMAX Re-Release — essential preparation for Part Three in December

  3. Exoplanet on Audible (5 Nov) — the month's boldest format experiment

  4. Edgerunners 2 — already streaming; binge before spoilers arrive

Whatever your medium of choice — screen, page, headphones, or controller — November 2026 is the month space sci-fi stops competing for attention and simply demands all of it.
